If we want to study the Vedas and Puranas to understand Sanatana Dharma, life, and our purpose, are there any rules or practices we should follow? As working professionals, how can we study them meaningfully and apply their teachings in daily life?
Namaste 🙏 You can study Sanatan Dharma while managing your work and family responsibilities. Begin by approaching the scriptures with sincere devotion, respect, and a willingness to learn. Choose a quiet place and a convenient time; setting aside even 10–15 minutes daily can be a good start. The Bhagavad Gita is an excellent choice to begin with, after which you can explore selected Upanishads and Puranas. Read at a measured pace, reflect on the context, and seek guidance from a knowledgeable Guru or teacher if something is unclear. Practices may vary across different traditions, and formal Vedic mantra chanting or rituals should be learned only under the guidance of a qualified Guru. To make your study truly meaningful, choose a specific teaching and practice it daily—such as speaking the truth, treating others with kindness, exercising patience, and fulfilling your responsibilities with integrity.
