The speaker of chapters 43 to 90 is Maharishi Markandeya Rishi, who listens to him are Kryptukis. The name of this Purana is derived from the statement of Markandeya Rishi.

Raj Harichandra himself started working as a Chandal in the crematorium only because the Dakshina of Rishi Vishwamitra had to be completed.
