The author of Sushruta Samhita (Sushruta Samhita in English) was Sushruta, a famous physician, and surgeon of ancient India. Maharishi Sushruta is considered the father of surgery. A detailed description of the measures related to 8 types of surgical treatment is found in this code book. In this book, the yantras (instruments) and weapons (instruments) necessary for surgical operations have been described in detail. ‘Sushrut Samhita’ is an ancient Sanskrit text on Ayurveda and surgery. It is one of the three basic texts of Ayurveda.

In ancient times in India, two types of medical methods were famous, one was ‘body-chikitsa’ and the other was ‘surgery-chikitsa’. Kaya-Chikitsa has a tradition of treating with medicine, and Shalya-Chikitsa is the treatment of pain in the body through surgery using weapons and instruments.

In today’s modern age, seeing plastic surgery, joining broken bones, operations, etc., you would think that medical science has progressed a lot. But Maharishi Sushrut has done all these things three and a half thousand years ago. In the “Sushrut Samhita” composed by Maharishi Sushrut, it has been said to perform the most difficult operation. Not only India, but the whole world has learned to do surgery by taking Sushruta Samhita as the base.

In the famous Sushruta Samhita, the instruments and weapons for surgical treatment are mentioned. In this Samhita, 20 types of weapons have been described for the surgical treatment of the human body.

Surgical operations:

In ‘Sushrut Samhita’ (Sushruta Samhita in English), eight types of surgical operations have been told-

5) Aishya (to find the lesion in the pulse)
6) Aharya (to remove harmful origins)
7) Vishravya (to remove liquid)
8) Sivya (for stitching wounds)

The yantras (instruments) and weapons (instruments) necessary for surgical operations have also been described in detail in this famous book. 24 types of swastikas, 2 types of sandas, 28 types of rods, and 20 types of pulses have been mentioned in the book. Apart from these, twenty types of weapons have also been described for each part of the human body. The eight types of surgeries referred to above were performed with different instruments and equipment.
