How to Attain Eternal Happiness?
Human life is a continuous search – the search for happiness. Everyone believes that if wealth, position, respect, relationships and facilities are attained, then life will become blissful. But the reality is the opposite. As many desires are fulfilled, as many new desires are born and man is never satisfied. This is the reason why Shri Hanuman Prasad Poddar ji, the founder-editor of Geeta Press, has explained in his work “How to Attain Eternal Happiness” that real and eternal happiness is not obtained from material things, but from God and self-knowledge.

This book is a guide for spiritual seekers. It sheds light on every aspect of life and explains that the ultimate goal of human life is only God-realization and self-knowledge.
It is clearly stated in the book that the human body is obtained by the grace of God. It is not only for pleasure and luxury, but is a means of spiritual practice and attaining God. Material desires are never fulfilled. The more a person runs after the world, the more he becomes restless and unhappy. The one who does not have wealth but has the name of God in his heart is the one who is truly happy. The ultimate goal of life is only to attain God, everything else is temporary.
Man often thinks that happiness will be obtained from wealth, family or pleasures. But all this is temporary. Even after the desires are fulfilled, new desires are born. There is never satisfaction from pleasures, rather greed increases. Anger, greed and dissatisfaction make life more miserable. Eternal happiness is only in God, because God is the embodiment of truth-consciousness-bliss.
Devotion is the means that connects the soul to God. When we surrender at the feet of God by considering Him as a friend, father, mother and true support, then true happiness is attained. Contentment has been called the greatest wealth. Control over desires and living a simple life is the root of peace. Vairagya does not mean leaving the world, but understanding its transience. The person who leaves the desire and follows the path of contentment, experiences true happiness.
